Plot and Character Break Down:

PLOT: A neurotic film critic tries to get over his wife leaving him by dating again, with the help of a married couple and his alter ego, Humphrey Bogart.

Allan Felix (character age range: 27-35): A neurotic, nervous awkward, intelligent, and likeable bespectacled film critic who idolizes Humphrey Bogart, and has recently been left by his wife. He is very awkward and nervous around women, except Linda. He is our story’s unlikely, underdog hero. Actor should have good comic timing. (The role played by Woody Allen in the play/film).

Linda Christie (character age range: 25- 35): An attractive, intelligent, genuine, caring nurturer with natural beauty. Witty though not sarcastic. Wife to Dick, who neglects her often, and friend to Allan.

Dick Christie (character age range: 27 - 35): A handsome, successful, driven, intelligent executive type who is often a bit self-absorbed and can come off as distant and clinical because of an almost constantly business-like disposition. He is an investor and his work dominates his life, causing him to neglect his wife at times, though he is a caring person underneath it all with a great deal of passion for his wife. He is Allan’s best friend.

Nancy (character age range: 27 - 35): Allan’s attractive, self-centered ex-wife, who considers herself above him.

Bogey (character age range: over 40): Humphrey Bogart, the actor, but really more the screen persona in his most famous films: the tough guy, cool and collected but ready for action; a man’s man. A good vocal impression of the actor is desired. A physical resemblance is not necessary, but would be an added bonus.

Sharon Lake (character age range: under 30) A fairly attractive woman (a friend of Dick and Linda’s) who goes on a date with Allan and is very put off by his awkward, nervous behavior.

Sharon and Barbara (characters age range: under 30) Two women to be played by the same actress. Sharon is Allan’s dream vision of what he fantasizes Sharon Lake will be like before he meets her: beautiful, sensual and nuts about him. Barbara is the beautiful woman who moves into Allan’s building and is a great admirer of his writing.

Intellectual Girl (character age range: under 30) A dark, attractive, sedate and suicidal woman whom Allan meets in an art museum. Perhaps played with a European accent of some sort.

Vanessa (character age range: under 30) A sexy, sensual woman who seems to view sex as her primary recreational activity, to be experienced in as many ways, and with as many partners as possible. She goes on a date with Allan…

Gina (character age range under 30:) A proper, uptight, Catholic girl who goes on a date with Allan.

Go-Go Girl (character age range: under 30) A sexy, shapely, bubble-headed dancer whom Allan meets in a club.
